The Palace Theatre Honors Michael Jackson with the Resurrection of Original “Thriller” Marquee

Historic Broadway corridor in downtown Los Angeles remembers the
‘King of Pop’

Los Angeles, CA (July 14, 2009) – The Palace Theatre, at 630 S.
Broadway, in Los Angeles’ Historic Broadway corridor, honors Michael
Jackson by restoring the original lettering from “Thriller” on the
marquee. The façade and marquee of the theatre were used in key
opening scenes of the famous theatrical music video. The marquee now
reads “Vincent Price, THRILLER” as it was seen in the video.

Shahram Delijani, whose family owns the Palace, as well as the Los
Angeles, State and Tower theatres, recalls that “In the Thriller
video, the music begins with a panning shot of the Palace marquee.
Michael Jackson comes running outside with a glowing smile on his face
to tell his date, ‘It’s only a movie.’ This image is imprinted
on the minds of all Michael Jackson fans. I thought it would be a
special gift for those people to look up at the marquee and to have
the realization that you are standing where Michael Jackson once stood
while filming the greatest video of all time. What a thrill!”

The marquee will remain as is for media and fans until mid August.

In addition to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video, the
Palace is a venue known for landmark filming projects such as
“Gypsy” in 1993, “Sinatra” in 1992, “The Prestige” and
most recently, “Dream Girls” in 1996 starring Jennifer Hudson.

Wailea, HI (June 24, 2009) – The 2009 Annual Maui Film Festival at Wailea held from June 17-21, 2009 announced its Festival winners. Approximately 20,000 people attended this year’s Maui Film Festival at Wailea and voted on their favorite films. FILM INDEPENDENT ANNOUNCES KHALED HOSSEINI AND THOM MAYNE AS ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE FOR 2009 LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL

LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2009) – Today Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced critically acclaimed author Khaled Hosseini and Pritzker Prize winning architect Thom Mayne as the Artists in Residence for the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival, presented by the Los Angeles Times. The Los Angeles Film Festival will run from Thursday, June 18 to Sunday, June 28.

In their roles as Artists in Residence, each has programmed a film that has inspired their work, followed by a conversation. Khaled Hosseini has selected Cyrus Nowrasteh’s The Stoning of Soraya M., to be followed by a panel discussion with Nowrasteh, the film’s actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, and internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions Reza Aslan.

Thom Mayne will be engaging in a fascinating dialogue with acclaimed cinematographer Frederick Elmes about architecture and cinema, and screening specific film references that will offer insight into their work with light and space to create both imagined and living environments.

“We love having artists from different mediums who share a passion for cinema and a critical and conscious engagement with society as our Artists in Residence,” said Festival Director Rebecca Yeldham. “We look forward to having Khaled and Thom share their film selections and insights with the Festival’s audiences and our community of artists.”

ASCAP’s Nicole George to Lead Rhythm & Soul Membership

New York, NY: June 8, 2009: Randall Grimmett, Senior Vice President, Domestic Membership of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced today that Nicole George will assume additional responsibilities within the Membership Group. Effective immediately, she becomes Assistant Vice President, Rhythm and Soul and adds the oversight and daily operational management of ASCAP’s Rhythm and Soul Membership department on a worldwide basis. George will continue with her current responsibilities in Business Affairs and run the day-to-day operations of the New York Membership office.

Commenting on the expansion of George’s duties, Grimmett stated, “In a short time, Nicole has proven to be a very strong contributor. Her work in business affairs has led to early positive results proving her value to ASCAP’s successful membership operations. Her vision for the continued success and growth of the Rhythm & Soul Membership department is exciting and dovetails perfectly with my Membership Group objectives.”

ASCAP’s Rhythm and Soul Membership department is responsible for outreach to some of the Society’s most prominent and successful members through executives in Atlanta , Los Angeles and New York . Outreach efforts include the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, music showcases, educational panels, and attendance at many music conferences and industry events. The department’s success has resulted in a dominant market share in this genre.
